Bowyer promises to... Drive like a nun

"I love filling my car up with petrol. it's the smell of the petrol forecourt - danger and speed all rolled up into one. i keep hoping that someone will prove the myth of ringing mobile phones making a petrol station blow up (with everyone at a safe distance of course, and preferably on a sunny sunday afternoon with a nice cold beer and some sausages to hand.)

As a general rule though, filling a car with petrol is probably a bad thing. When I depress that lever I just know that somewhere a tree is silently crying.

Chainging my speed is probably the easiest thing to adjust to increase my fuel economy and save tose precious trees and butterflies and squirrels. Most cars today begin to lose fuel effeciency significantly once you pass 55 mph. The faster I drive, the faster Vivienne (my car) drinks petrol. If you have the option of driving 65 mph or 75 mph, for example, you will use over 20% more fuel that doing 55. it might take longer to get there, but the savings could be several pints of beer for each extra hour the trip takes.

And that's a good thing."
